The Hurt Waller Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to empowering youth and strengthening communities through education, compassion, and service.
Founded on the belief that every individual deserves the opportunity to succeed, the Foundation awards scholarships to students pursuing higher education and technical training while also supporting charitable organizations that promote health, wellness, and community advancement.
Our work extends to causes close to our hearts — including efforts to combat diabetes, cancer, and mental illness — reflecting our deep commitment to both education and overall well-being.
At the core of everything we do is a simple yet powerful guiding principle:
“Let love be our greatest aim.”
Through love, we foster growth, resilience, and opportunity for generations to come.

The Hurt Waller Foundation Inc, exists to honor the spirit of Lee Hurt and Liza Waller (Hurt) — to carry forward their legacy by helping future generations move forward.

Please reach us at hurtwallerfoundation@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Applications will be accepted January 1 through March 31st. The Selection Committee will review applications and communicate decisions in May. The amount of the scholarship and number of people getting them will be based on donations and funding available in May.
Scholarships are awarded a year at a time, and are not continuous. However the applicant may reapply each year they are enrolled. To apply, click the 'Find Out More' button and you will be directed to the eligibility criteria and application. The amount of the scholarship will be determined after the application period and will be based on funding availability at that time.
Yes, and we appreciate all donations of any size. If you are a Hurt Waller Family member, please click the 'Hurt Waller Family Donations' button. If you are a Non-Family member, please click the 'General Donations' button. Thank you for your generous contribution.
We welcome donations from anyone interested in helping students fund their education. Since we are a Private Foundation supported primarily by family, we like to track donations separately to determine primary income sources for tax purposes. Donations from non-family members are especially appreciated and we thank all for their generous donations, big or small
Our account is set up to NOT require processing fees on payments, however you will need to click edit during the last screen to indicate that you will not cover the fees. TIPS are also optional but encouraged for any amount. This helps offset the expense of not paying fees and ensures the Foundation gets your full donation amount.
Once student is enrolled, scholarship dollars will be paid directly to the institution in most cases, unless there are special circumstances that should be considered
Students must be enrolled in a higher education institution before any scholarships are awarded, however we know that some enrollments are still in process when the application is being completed. Application may be submitted pending enrollment, but will not be fully reviewed until student is officially enrolled.
You do not need to be a family member to apply for a scholarship. The eligibility requirements are the same for everyone which includes 1) You must be enrolled in a higher education learning or technical training facility, 2) You must summarize your resume on the application, 3) You must write an essay between 300-500 words describing your career goals and how the scholarship will help, 4) You must submit 2 recommendation letters from teachers, employers, co-workers, mentors or community leaders
Close relatives of active Board Members and active Selection Committee members are not eligible to receive a scholarship. "Close' is defined as spouses, parents, children, grandchildren, siblings and their spouses. Other relatives ARE eligible
We use a very secure system called Givebutter, that has strict privacy protections, using encryption and secure processors to protect information. Payment data is handled by PCI-compliant third parties and not stored on our servers.
