Empowering Future Generations

HURT WALLER FOUNDATION MISSION

About Us

The Hurt Waller Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to empowering youth and strengthening communities through education, compassion, and service.

Founded on the belief that every individual deserves the opportunity to succeed, the Foundation awards scholarships to students pursuing higher education and technical training while also supporting charitable organizations that promote health, wellness, and community advancement.

Our work extends to causes close to our hearts — including efforts to combat diabetes, cancer, and mental illness — reflecting our deep commitment to both education and overall well-being.

At the core of everything we do is a simple yet powerful guiding principle:
“Let love be our greatest aim.”
Through love, we foster growth, resilience, and opportunity for generations to come.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at scholarships@hurtwallerfoundation.org if you cannot find an answer to your question.

Applications will be accepted January 1 through March 31st.  When you submit your application on the hurtwallerfoundation.org site, you should receive a confirmation that we received it.  If you don't receive it, please contact us at scholarships@hurtwallerfoundation.org to confirm.

The Selection Committee will review applications and communicate Awarded/Declined and award amount decisions by May 31st via E-mail and/or Phone Call.  The amount of the scholarship and number of people getting them will be based on donations and funding available in May.  Once we have notified you that you are getting an award, the payment will be made directly to the institution you are enrolled in.  We will get payment instructions from you at that time.

Scholarships are awarded on a calendar year basis and are not continuous from semester to semester.  However the applicant may reapply each calendar year with proof of enrollment.  There can only be one scholarship application per calendar year.  To apply, click the 'Click Here for Eligibility and Application' button and you will be directed to the eligibility criteria and application.  The amount of the scholarship will be determined after the application period and will be based on funding availability at that time.

Yes, and we encourage and appreciate all donations of any size.  If you are a Hurt Waller Family member, please click the 'Hurt Waller Family Donations' button.  If you are a Non-Family member, please click the 'General Donations' button.  Thank you for your generous contribution.  PLEASE NOTE:  PAYING PROCESSING FEES AND TIPS IS OPTIONAL.   You will have the option to make this decision during the final step of donation processing.

We welcome donations from anyone interested in helping students fund their education.  Since we are a Private Foundation supported primarily by family, we like to track donations separately to determine primary income sources for tax purposes.  Donations from non-family members are especially appreciated and we thank all for their generous donations, big or small.

Our account is set up to make it OPTIONAL to pay processing fees or tips on payments, however the payment screens will default to paying the fee.  You will need to click edit during the last screen to indicate that you will not cover the fees.  TIPS are also optional but encouraged for any amount you choose.  You do not have to choose one of the defaults.  Allowing tips helps us offset the expense of not paying required processing fees and ensures the Foundation gets your full donation amount, but you decide if and how much you would like to support.

Scholarship eligibility requires proof of enrollment in a higher education or training institution.  Once the student is enrolled, in most cases scholarship dollars will be paid directly to the institution unless there are special circumstances that should be considered.  We will confirm with the student before payment is made.

Students must be enrolled in a higher education institution before any scholarships are approved and paid, however we know that some enrollments are still in process when the application is being completed.  The deadlines for submitting the application is March 31st pending enrollment proof, however it will not be fully reviewed until student is officially enrolled.  Proof of enrollment documents must be e-mailed to scholarships@hurtwallerfoundation.org no later than mid-May.

You do not need to be a family member to apply for a scholarship.  The eligibility requirements are the same for everyone which includes 1)  You must be enrolled in a higher education learning or technical training facility, 2)  You must summarize your resume on the application, 3)  You must write an essay between 300-500 words describing your career goals and how the scholarship will help, 4)  You must submit 2 recommendation letters from teachers, employers, co-workers, mentors or community leaders

Close relatives of active Board Members and active Selection Committee members are not eligible to receive a scholarship.  "Close' is defined as spouses, parents, children, grandchildren, siblings and their spouses.  Other relatives ARE eligible

We use a very secure system called Givebutter, that has strict privacy protections, using encryption and secure processors to protect information.  Payment data is handled by PCI-compliant third parties and not stored on our servers.
